Dorte's Sixth Post
Dear Reader
Summer time is upon us, and we meet friends and family, fly to foreign countries. We lie on the beach, visit cities, go hiking, camping and sailing. Summer time is the time when we relax and when we do something different from our everyday life.
For some people it is hard to do different from the everyday life, because they have a condition where they depend on the routines and the safety that surrounds those routines. I could easily have been one of those people that had to say ‘Thanks – but no thanks’, to the joyful summertime moments. Before 2003 I was suffering from severe incontinence. If I went some places I had to bring LOTS – and I mean a lot, of clothes because I would wet myself all the time. If I were to sit outside without being covered with thick woolen blankets, I would be 99% sure of getting an UTI (Urinary Tract Infections). So summertime was not really as relaxing and fun as it is now.
And why do I enjoy summer time now? You may ask yourself…Because I do not have UTI or urine soaked clothes anymore. I found a simple solution to my problem. But wow… it is efficient… a small intervention in life can have a great outcome.
I started doing ISC (Intermittent Self Catheterisation) and once I started, there was no turning back, because I found out how easy it is to do. For me it is all a matter of finding the right catheter and I found Emteva. It’s a small, award-winning catheter that I can insert everywhere – and I mean everywhere. So that I am sure not to move around with a filled bladder and that urine eventually would end up in my pants. Doing ISC with my Emteva allows me to move around and do whatever I want.
Summertime is good. I have been wildlife camping in Sweden with my grandchildren. No incontinence, no UTI. Just joyful moments in nature. I have visited small islands with primitive toilet facilities, and listened to world class, fabulous jazz music. No incontinence, no UTI. Just dancing and having fun.
I have been to the beach several times with family and friends, swimming in cold water (that would normally provoke a UTI). No incontinence, no UTI. Just sun, sand, water and good life. I have been hiking with my backpack and walking around in the beautiful outdoors, sleeping in the open air. No incontinence, no UTI. Just a lot of mosquito bites, blisters and breathtaking landscapes.
The summer is not over yet and I still have a lot of places to visit, people to meet and things to do. And I am so grateful for Emteva because it allows me to do whatever I want to do. Do you have the same freedom from your condition? Please feel free to respond either here or on mail dbj@hunterurology.com We can also Skype if you want.
Happy summer times to you and yours. Greetings, Dorte
